San Andreas Regional Center 28th Annual Legislative Luncheon - Registration for Legislative Offices Event Description
During San Andreas Regional Center’s 28th Annual Legislative Luncheon, guests will hear from elected officials, parents, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and advocates who support the developmental disability community. The theme of the luncheon will also honor the legacy of 60 Years of Civil Rights Legislation known today as the Lanterman Act.
In 1965, Assembly Bill 691 was enacted and signed by Governor Edmund (Pat) Brown establishing two pilot regional centers (one in Los Angeles and the other in San Francisco) for persons with intellectual disabilities under contract with the State Department of Public Health. The centers were to call attention to unmet needs, assist in service development, upgrade services, maintain records, and provide systematic assessment, diagnosis and follow-up. Since then, 21 Regional Centers have been created to meet the needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities throughout the State of California.
Policy makers, service providers, educators, and advocates who value the civil rights of individuals with disabilities understand the need for equal access to services, educational opportunities, affordable housing, employment opportunities, and equal treatment for those with differing abilities. The Luncheon will also feature a few dynamic advocates who will speak about the abilities of individuals with disabilities and the importance of advocating for continued services.
Invited Guests: Federal, State, and Local Legislators & they're staff, Individuals with Differing Abilities and they're families, Service Providers and they're staff, School Board Members and they're staff, Direct Care workers, Advocates, County and City Programs, Non-Profit Organizations, and the Community at Large from the counties of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Bento, and Monterey.
Who Are We: San Andreas Regional Center is a nonprofit, community-based organization contracted by the State of California serving well over 18,500 individuals with developmental intellectual disabilities within Santa Clara, San Benito, Santa Cruz, and Monterey Counties.
